They hold the pants up during tough training sessions and allow you to adjust the waist to fit you perfectly. Another detail that sets our pants apart... we don't just have reinforced stitching on the knees, BUT we've reinforced them from the knees down to the hem of the pants making it tougher to grip and even more tear resistant!
